Amarnath Yatra questions, answered
When is Amarnath Yatra 2027?
The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) has not announced the 2027 dates yet. The 2026 yatra ran for 57 days, from 3 July to 28 August, and registration opened on 15 April. We update our Amarnath Yatra dates 2027 page as soon as SASB publishes the schedule.
Is registration compulsory for Amarnath Yatra?
Yes. Every pilgrim needs a yatra permit through the SASB portal or a designated bank branch, plus a compulsory health certificate. In 2026 the registration fee was Rs 150 per pilgrim. Our team helps you with the steps and documents.
Which route is better, Pahalgam or Baltal?
Pahalgam is longer, about 46 km, and usually takes three to four days on foot with gradual climbs. Baltal is much shorter, about 14 km, but steep, and fit pilgrims can finish it within one or two days. Helicopter and pony or palki options exist on both sides.
Does the helicopter go all the way to the holy cave?
No. Helicopters fly from Baltal or Pahalgam to Panchtarni. From Panchtarni you still cover roughly 6 km to the cave on foot, by pony or by palki.
What is the age limit and who needs a health certificate?
SASB guidelines for 2026 allowed pilgrims between 13 and 70 years. Every pilgrim must carry a health certificate from a registered doctor, and some medical conditions are not permitted at that altitude. Always check the latest SASB rules before you book.
How do I book a helicopter ticket?
Helicopter tickets are sold through the Shrine Board and its approved operators, and seats go quickly. Share your dates, route and group size with us and we will guide you on the current booking process and fares.
What should I carry for Amarnath Yatra?
Carry warm and waterproof clothing, sturdy trekking shoes, a walking stick, a raincoat, your yatra permit, original photo ID, regular medicines and a small first-aid kit. Nights near the cave drop below freezing even in July and August.
